Resetting an employee's Microsoft 365 password

If an employee is locked out of their work account, you can reset their Microsoft 365 password from their profile. Open Core HR generates a new temporary password for you to give them.

  1. Employees — Open the Employees group in the menu.
  2. Active — Then choose Active.

Your account needs administrator access (the permission to edit employees) to do this.

Steps

  1. Open the employee's profile.
  2. Select the Microsoft 365 tab. (This tab only appears for employees who have a Microsoft 365 account.)
  3. Under Password Management, select Reset Password.
  4. The new password is shown on screen. Use Show / Hide to reveal it, and Copy to copy it.
  5. Share the new password with the employee securely. They must change it the next time they sign in.

What you'll see

The new password is generated for both Open Core HR and Microsoft 365 — the employee uses the same password for both. A confirmation message appears once the reset is done.

Looking up the existing password instead

If you just need to read the employee's current initial password (not generate a new one), use View Initial Password on the same tab — see Looking up an employee's work-account details.
