Code prefixes

The Code Prefix tab on the Settings screen sets the text at the start of the codes Open Core HR generates. Open Settings from the gear icon in the top bar, then choose the Code Prefix tab.

What you can set

There is a prefix for each kind of record Open Core HR generates a code for:

• Employee — used for employee codes, e.g. EMP-0001
• Shift
• Holiday
• Expense Type
• Document Type

When you create one of these records, its code is built from the matching prefix. Records Open Core HR does not generate a code for — leave types, departments, designations, locations — have no prefix, because you name their codes yourself.

Steps

1. Open Settings from the gear icon in the top bar.
2. Open the Code Prefix tab.
3. Type the prefix you want in each field.
4. Click Save Changes.

Tips

• Changing a prefix affects codes generated from then on; it doesn't rename codes that already exist.
• Keep prefixes short and consistent so codes stay easy to read.
