Roles & permissions

admin · super admin · hr admin · hr manager · accounts · Human Resource manager. Availability depends on your company's configuration.

Finding your way around

Open Core HR has a left menu, a top bar, and the main content area. This page explains what's where and how to move between the two parts of the app.

  1. The menu — The left menu lists every area you can open. It collapses to icons with the arrow at the bottom.
  2. The top bar — Search, the Settings gear, the app switcher, the theme toggle, your notifications and your profile menu.

The left menu

  • The menu runs down the left side and is grouped into sections (for example, Human Resources, Workforce Management, Settings).
  • You only see the items your role allows, so your menu may be shorter than a colleague's.
  • You can collapse the menu to icons only to give the page more room, and expand it again — Open Core HR remembers your choice.

Documentation

The Documentation link in the workspace footer opens the public manual in a new tab.

The top bar

  • Search — the search box (also opened with Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) lets you jump to pages, and, in the workspace, look up employees.
  • Settings (gear icon) — for administrators, this opens the company settings area.
  • App switcher (grid icon) — lists the Open Core HR apps you can open, including Self-Service and any other apps your company has connected.
  • Theme (sun/moon icon) — switch between Light, Dark, and System appearance.
  • Notifications (bell icon) — your recent alerts.
  • Your profile menu — your name and photo at the far right. It has My Profile, Change Password, and Logout.

The two areas

  • The workspace is the HR, manager, and admin side — the employee directory, approvals, reports, settings, and so on.
  • The Self-Service portal is your personal area — your profile, leave, attendance, expenses, and documents.

If your account can use both, switch between them with the app switcher (the grid icon in the top bar) and pick Workspace or Self Service. If your account only has one of them, you'll always land there when you sign in.
