Asset categories

Categories group your assets — for example, Laptops, Phones, or Furniture. Every asset belongs to a category. Open Asset Management → Categories to manage them.

  1. Asset Management — Open the Asset Management group in the menu.

  2. Categories — Then choose Categories.

  3. Search — Use the Search categories... box to find a category by name, slug, or description.

  4. Add Category — Click Add Category at the top right.

  5. Name — Required. The category name (e.g. Laptops).

  6. Slug — Optional. Leave blank to auto-generate from the name.

  7. Has Accessories — Turn on if assets in this category come with accessories you want to track.

  8. Description — Optional. A short description of what the category contains.

  9. Create — Save the new category — it appears in the list.

  10. Edit — Click the edit (pencil) action on the category’s row.

  11. Update — Save your changes.

  12. Delete — Click the delete (trash) action on the category’s row.

  13. Delete — Confirm — the category is removed.

Steps

View categories

  1. In the left menu, open Asset Management → Categories.
  2. Use the Search categories... box to find a category by name, slug, or description.
  3. Click the Name or Slug column header to sort.

Add a category

  1. Click Add Category at the top right. A panel slides in from the right.
  2. Enter a Name (required).
  3. Optionally enter a Slug — leave it blank to have one generated automatically.
  4. Turn on Has Accessories if assets in this category come with accessories you want to track.
  5. Optionally add a Description.
  6. Click Create.

Edit a category

  1. Click the edit (pencil) action on the category's row.
  2. Update the fields in the panel.
  3. Click Update.

Delete a category

  1. Click the delete (trash) action on the category's row.
  2. Confirm by clicking Delete.

What you'll see

The list shows these columns:

  • Name — the category name.
  • Slug — the category's short identifier.
  • Workflow Code — an approval workflow code, or a dash if none. The create and edit panel does not expose this field.
  • Has Accessories — Yes or No.
  • Asset Count — how many assets are in the category.
  • Actions — edit (pencil) and delete (trash) buttons, if you have permission.

Tips

  • Turning on Has Accessories makes the Accessories section appear when adding or editing an asset in that category.
  • A category's Asset Count helps you see which categories are in use before deleting one.

Troubleshooting

  • The delete fails — a category that still has assets may not be removable. Move or remove its assets first, then try again.
